Arkley Community Events
ARKLEY COMMUNITY EVENTS was borne out of a committee from Rockways – The Hearts of Arkley – who raised money for a street Defibrillator (another story!).
The Hearts of Arkley originally were set up on the back of two street parties – the Queen’s Jubilee and The King’s Coronation – raising money for a cancer charity called Chai, the Defibrillator and other worthy causes.
However, we wanted to take our funding raising further. We needed ongoing funds to keep the Defibrillator running, insured etc. Plus we also wanted to run other community projects.
So, from our experience of running two very successful street parties, we thought it would be great to bring back the Arkley Fayre. This would be on a much larger scale, however, so the Arkley Community Fayre was borne!
We have a great relationship with the ladies from the previous Arkley Scarecrows fetes and we formed a joint committee. We then asked if the Arkley Association had a free day so that we could hire their facilities including the Village Hall and the field.
May 18th was finally booked – avoiding the FA cup final! The Arkley Association were also interested in helping us, so they came on board too!
Our first joint major event, including a fantastic dog show, was a huge success, attracting approximately 1,200 people. This, with the encouragement of the community, has encouraged us to do further events annually.
So, if you are a stall holder, a volunteer or just a love a fun day out, keep an eye out for our events or community projects! We are always planning…
